Appledore is a quaint fishing village in North Devon, situated where the Rivers Taw and Torridge meet. Sailing is very popular and the view at low tide across a vast spread of sandbanks to the open sea, is particularly beautiful.
It has been a famous boat-building centre for many years and it is still carried on from a large dry dock. The narrow streets of pastel coloured, mainly Georgian cottages, are very pretty and slope straight down to Appledore Quay.
