This ancient and cobbled steeply descending street, is probably the most photographed in Dorset. Its unique setting in the County’s only hill-top town, was made even more famous as the setting for the Hovis bread television commercial.
Shaftesbury, a Saxon fortified town, has a long history. In the Abbey in 981 A.D., Edward the Martyr, the 18 year old King, was buried after being murdered at Corfe Castle at the instigation of his stepmother.
