Westmill, which is only eight miles from Stevenage, is a small village which has an air of quiet prosperity, with well tended grass verges.
The triangular green, bordered by an attractive traditional tea shop, contains an old pump with a tiled roof. The village has a wide main street and pollarded trees. The cottages which make up the village, have a variety of styles, some thatched, some red brick and some black and white.
The Sword Inn Hand Inn, is a pink washed village pub, next door to St. Mary’s Church, which is of Saxon origin.
